Indications:
Paget’s disease, osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (prevention of bone fractures, incl hip and spine), osteoporosis in men, hypercalcemia of malignant tumors.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation, infancy (safety and efficacy are not currently defined). Diseases of the digestive tract in the acute phase (dysphagia, esophagitis, gastritis, duodenitis, peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer), esophageal stricture, achalasia of the esophagus, chronic renal failure (creatinine clearance less than at 35 ml / min increases the risk of accumulation of the drug), hypocalcemia, vitamin D deficiency .
Side effects:
Part of the digestive system: stomach pain, dysphagia, heartburn, esophagitis, peptic ulcer or erosion of the esophagus, gastralgia, dyspepsia, flatulence, constipation or diarrhea, and nausea. CNS: headache, irritability. For the skin: skin rash, redness of the skin. Other: myalgia, asymptomatic hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia. Dosage and administration:
Inside, a once a day, without chewing, for 2 hours (at least 30 minutes) before the first meal, water or other drugs. Drink only plain water. Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women – 10 mg / day for prophylaxis – 5 mg / day. In Paget’s disease – 40 mg / day for 6 months.
Special instructions:
Just drink plain water because other drinks (including mineral water, coffee, tea, orange juice) reduce the absorption. To reduce the irritating effects on the esophagus should be taken immediately after the morning rise, with a full glass of water after taking should not lie down for 30 minutes (dangerous to apply in the case of the patient’s inability to stand or sit upright for 30 minutes).
